ROLLEI XF 35

Een tijdje geleden stuitten we tijdens een kringloop-bezoek op een mooie analoge camera; een Rollei XF 35. William kijkt altijd of er iets leuks bij ligt zoals polaroids, rangefinders en andere oude camera's, naast de wegwerp-camera's die je maar al te vaak in de bak ziet liggen. De Rollei XF 35 is zo'n oude camera. Een rangefinder, waarbij je moet focussen door te draaien aan de ring op de lens. Eigenlijk zoals je dat tegenwoordig ook doet met een digitale spiegelreflex camera, maar het in plaats van een piepje en een rood stipje moet je schuiven met beelden! In het midden van je viewfinder zit een vierkantje met twee keer het beeld wat je voor je ziet. Door te draaien aan de focus-ring moet je ervoor zorgen dat de twee beelden elkaar exact overlappen, op dat moment weet je dat het scherp is. Tenminste...dat weet je pas na het ontwikkelen, dat is altijd de gok met oude camera's.

We wisten echt niet of de camera het a. zou doen, b. of het scherp zou zijn. Bovendien moest er een oud knoopcell batterijtje in die niet meer te koop is, maar met wat knutselen (en later een speciale batterij-adapter) kwam de lichtmeter tot leven. Een naald aan de rechterkant die zegt hoe licht het beeld is. Een essentieel punt om de camera de sluitertijd te laten bepalen, want alles gaat voor de rest automatisch.

Toen we begonnen te klikken was er geen verandering te zien op de teller die laat zien hoeveel foto's er nog over zijn op het rolletje. Ik had er weinig vertrouwen in. Maar William klikte rustig door. "Ach de teller zit misschien vast". Hij wilde het rolletje zo snel mogelijk vol schieten zodat we het konden ontwikkelen.

Dus zodra hij vol was gingen we gelijk naar de Hema. Waar op dat moment een boze vrouw voor ons stond die haar best humeur had meegenomen en de hel afvuurde op de kassajuf. "En ja, nu moet ik weer helemaal terug om de foto's op te halen, en dat kan niet want de kinderen dit...en dat...En jullie zouden het binnen twee dagen af hebben en ik heb verder geen tijd meer om het op te halen en...en...en" en zo ging het even door. Terwijl de kassajuf geduldig en beheerst reageerde liep de vrouw al scheldend weg "Ja, nou een FIJNE dag! grumble grumble". Na een diepe zucht van de kassajuf, ons tweetjes en alle andere aanwezige klanten bij de kassa konden we ons rolletje inleveren.

Twee dagen zou het duren, maar uiteindelijk op de 3e dag opgehaald. Stiekem wilde we hetzelfde tafereel uitvoeren als de boze vrouw bij het inleveren, maar onze foto's waren er (helaas) gewoon. De reden dat we het bij Hema lieten ontwikkelen was omdat je 3 rolletjes 35mm/kleinbeeld kan kopen en op de verpakking 3 coupons zitten dat de ontwikkelingskosten twv € 2,59 gratis zijn. Dus uiteindelijk kostte het ons ongeveer 5 euro voor 36 foto's.

Van William mochten we thuis pas kijken om de spanning op te bouwen. Op het overzichtje waar we wel op keken zagen we tenminste niet allemaal zwarte of allemaal witte foto's dus dat was al een goed teken. Eenmaal thuis aangekomen, het zakje zowaar opengescheurd en de foto's bekeken.

En wat een mooie foto's maakt dit ding! De kleuren, de ongelooflijke scherpheid (als hij goed gefocust is) en de scherpte-diepte (hoe blurry de achtergrond is ten opzichte van het onderwerp) waren gewoon fantastisch. Dat en het feit dat het gewoon een verrassing blijft tot je de foto's in handen hebt maken het analoog schieten met een oude camera zo leuk.

William is nu alweer bezig met zijn volgende 'project'. Laatst vond hij een mooie foto-tas MET inhoud! Lenzen, batterijen en een Olympus camera die werkt op zonne-energie. En het leuke is dat er al een rolletje in zat en de teller op 4 stond. Ik ben echt benieuwd wat er op die eerste 4 foto's staat!

Gisteren kwamen William en ik na een klein auto-ritje uit bij Hoogte 80, dit is het hoogste punt van Arnhem. Jaja, 80 meter boven NAP is heel wat voor Nederland! De zon hing op dat moment al vrij laag aan de hemel maar na een kwartier kleurde de lucht feloranje en hadden we een oogverblindend uitzicht daar boven op de berg. Tijd voor wat outfit-foto's dus!

Zie hier mijn eerste poging om mijn haar in een staartje/knotje te doen! Ik ben mijn haar langer aan het laten groeien om er uiteindelijk een bob van te laten knippen maar het groeien duurt zo ontzettend lang. Ik zit nu al maanden met die beruchte tussen-lengte waardoor ik ontzettend baal van mijn haar. Ik kan er niets mee. Ik hoop dat het snel net ietsje langer is zodat ik het makkelijker in een staartje kan doen zonder 10 schuifspeldjes te hoeven gebruiken.

Wat een leuke reacties op vorig stukje, dank-jullie-wel! Dat geeft de burger weer moed.

Hierboven kon je een compleet overzicht zien van maandag's comfortabele suikerspin outfit met alle bijbehorende funny faces. Nouja.. comfortabel, ik ben eigenlijk niet zo'n fan van harde, schurende, strakke spijkerbroeken. Voor comfort ga ik toch liever voor zachtere stoffen maar ik moet toegeven dat de trui echt heerlijk warm en zacht is!

Morgenochtend hoop ik even een bezoekje aan Arnhem stad te kunnen brengen omdat iemand me nogal enthousiast heeft gekregen over de Zara sale, er schijnt een jas te hangen met fake fur mouwen. Dat moet ik even aanschouwen! Ook wil ik heel graag de Isabel Marant look-a-like franje laarzen die bij Zara verkrijgbaar zijn aanpassen. En nouja, ik ben al een tijd niet meer in de stad geweest dus een goed excuus om even te gaan kijken!

RIBCAGE

From now on I will write this blog in my own language, Dutch! Yep, I'm sorry for those who can't read it but 2012 feels like the year of changes and this feels like a good change for my blog. I'm just not that good in expressing myself in ye good olde English. Most of the times the photo's speak their own language so I guess it won't be a big problem.

De omschakeling is bij deze gemaakt! Dat voelt goed, bevrijdend zelfs. Nu kan ik alles kwijt wat ik kwijt wil, zonder met moeite Engelse woorden uit de m'n toverhoed (Google) te hoeven halen en 30min+ over een paar zinnen te doen. Gelukkig heb ik William kostelijk kunnen vermaken met mijn zelfverzonnen Engelse woorden en verstrengelde zinnen. En was hij daarna zo lief om de gehele tekst voor me te herschrijven. Maar op deze manier is het er niet echt persoonlijker op geworden, je zult hopelijk merken dat door deze verandering deze blog wat meer 'Leonie' zal worden.

Het lijkt me bijvoorbeeld leuk om wat meer te kunnen vertellen over het wel en wee in onze winkel (Froufrou's). Want het is soms één groot toneelstuk daar in de Hommelstraat in Arnhem. Je moet namelijk weten dat onze winkel aan het begin van Klarendal ligt; een volkswijk met een vrij hoog tokkie-gehalte. Ook bestaat de straat voor 3/4 uit Döner Kebab zaken, louche belwinkels en 'souvenirswinkels' met voornamelijk tapijten en protserige ornamenten. Daarbij is de hoek naast onze winkel uitgeroepen tot hangplek voor zwervers en rasta-mannen met ghetto blasters. Een andere grote groep die in 'onze' wijk actief is en tevens de groep waar wij ons op richten: studenten en creatievelingen. Deze verzamelen zich gedurende de dag bij Tape; een espressobar, café en expo recht tegenover Froufrou's. Je kunt je nu voorstellen dat er van alles binnen komt in onze shop, het is elke dag genieten. Vooral om mensen met dezelfde passie voor mode, vintage en andere mooie dingen te ontmoeten. Ik hoop dus door deze taalswitch wat meer over dit soort taferelen en ontmoetingen te kunnen vertellen. Maar naast de winkel heb ik ook vele andere interesses en gedachtes me likes to talk aboutz. Daarentegen wil ik ook weer niet te veel het internet vervuilen met mijn tekst dus het zal binnen de perken blijven.

Goed, terug naar de titel: ribcage! Dat gaat natuurlijk over de trui die ik vandaag aan had. De trui zit als een pyama maar is way to cool om als 'huis-sweater' gebruikt te worden. Dit komt doordat de rug van de trui onder handen is genomen door mijn favoriete blogger: Vintage Virgin! Ze is de koningin van de kringloop maar ook van het shredden van kledingstukken. OPENING FROUFROU'S STORE

As you might know, our store is already open from February but crazy as it may sound; we opened the shop officially in November. We started as a pop-up shop, not sure how long we would stay or even IF we would continue as a real shop. In October we decided we wanted to stay longer and sign a longterm contract for the shop. So at the opening party we celebrated that Froufrou's will stay for two more years in Arnhem! Yeah. William and I are so happy that the store is such a success.

At the party we served all kinds of homemade appetizers and our friend Daisy also made her famous 'bug' pastries and bon bons. Would you dare to try a mealworm brownie or a grasshopper bon bon with pineapple filling?

Yesterday you could see me wearing the above. I felt really good in this outfit but it was way too cold again. It's just impossible to heat the store to a normal human temperature. That's why we will start to isolate some parts of the building. I hope it will help. I mean; I like big sweaters and cardigans but sometimes I just want to wear a simple blouse.

Today I'm wearing something way too cold, I was shivering whole day during work due to the lace tights. Now I'm at home in my warm pajamas, way better!

I'm really busy these days, hence the lack of updates here. Saturday evening we had a small party in our store, celebrating the Froufrou's store will stay in Arnhem for 2 more years! The party needed a lot of preparations so I've been constantly busy for two weeks. Now I'm a bit relieved the party turned out a big succes! Photo's from the 'official' Froufrou's opening party will follow soon. Also the preparations for Flavourites Live are a lot of work. SUMMER MEMORY: SHOOTING A WEDDING

This wedding was truly the most magical wedding-celebration I have ever been to. To me this is THE perfect wedding; in the midst of nature and not so much drama and the whole show. How do you imagine your wedding to be?

It is such a joy to wear this dress; you feel like a pretty lady while in the meantime enjoying the comfort of the soft knit on your skin. Because I wanted to wear the dress on a classy way I added some classic pieces: Chanel bag, Stella McCartney heels and vintage bowler to top it of. Next time I will try a less feminine look with this dress and toughen up the look up with a pair of biker boots for example. Or maybe a more fun / clownesque look ... No doubt, I've got a lot more ideas for this dress!

Look what a massive surprise I got in the mail today? From now on I can call myself a proud owner of a 'Michael Barnaart van Bergen'! This dress is right up my alley. The combination of olive green and coral red, a huge bow plus the rich knit which feels so soft on your skin, makes it the perfect 'Léonie-dress'. I'm following Michael's work for a while now as I've been his classmate during a half year at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute. Last month I went to see his show with my girls from Flavourites and I totally fell in love with his designs seeing it in real life. Will do an outfit with this dress asap :)

Here you have my Monday-look! To me this is a quite simple outfit and all about comfort. I always like to keep it lazy on Mondays because it's my only day off in the week. It's just about piling on some layers, whatever I find lying around in my room. And most of the time I go for black or gray because that's a no brainer.

When we were bringing a quick visit to Ikea yesterday my look proofed to be not that simple as I thought. A little boy said to his dad while pointing at me; "Look dad it's Lady Gaga!". "No son, that's not Lady Gaga". Funny. Also I hear a lot of people who are visiting our store saying to each other: "This is so Lady Gaga". I think it is kind of a compliment because she dresses creative but it also makes me think. Don't people have other references then brainwashed popstars these days? Everything that's a little different gets labeled as Gaga. I understand really young people might not know any better but people from age 18+? The situation is worrying to me probably because I have read too much on this site. I just want people to be a little bit more considerate while watching television / listening to music etc. Media might not be that innocent as we all think...

RIVER ISLAND XMAS COLLECTION

Two weeks ago William and I were invited to see the River Island Xmas salon show. I was really excited as I was never invited to a fashion show before. The show was held close after working hours so we had to run on a really tight schedule as we don't live nearby Amsterdam. Seemed like no problem to me; we just had to close up shop an hour earlier. Not expecting the store to be fully packed at that critical hour!! @#$%^&!
This meant no fashion show for us.. maybe more luck next time!

The lilac and black suede heels are my holiday purchases I told you about earlier. The blue ones are a recent purchase but they also wanted to be photographed! Connaisseurs must have recognized the lilac Casadei plateau sandals; I bought them in in Cannes when suddenly discovering a Casadei store having a big sale. The Casadei store in Cannes is sharing it's space with Missoni. That's why I was carrying a Missoni bag you saw earlier on my blog. Mystery solved. The black suede heels are second hand Prada which I bought in a vintage shop in Milan. Now I have two souvenirs from France and Italy which I will probably treasure till passing it on to my children.

I'm not the type of person who cleans out their closet every season. I almost keep every item I bought; whether it's a H&M of a designer piece. So these shoes will be with me for a long time!

I forgot about the blue heels; they are from Mellissa. I bought them in Arnhem at van Markoviec. It's a store with all kind of eco friendly fashion and it's near the Froufrou's store. The best thing about these shoes is that they have a built-in scent. They smell a little like bubble gum or some kind of sweet talc powder. The material used in these shoes is eco friendly plastic / rubber.

I'm really curious what you think of my new hair! I love it so much. First because it is really ME. Second because it's a practical hairdo, I'm not so good with hairstyling products, blow dryers and pins in the morning. I chose this purple and green outfit because I thought it would match my new copper brown hair color. And luckily I recently got these two peacock necklaces at Primark to finish the look. Stacking two of the same necklaces to give it more volume.

During June I was able to go twice to the exposition of the Arnhem Mode Biennale. Hence the two outfits you see in this outfit compilation. Today I had to say goodbye to a new friend who I had the honor to get to know during two weeks. No it's not a person, it's a phone! A Nokia pink N8. Nokia gave me the chance to use this phone and test it out. I had fun snapping around with the built in 12 MP camera + finding out how the phone can be used to it's fullest.

I found the phone very useful for social functions; Facebook, email etc. I think these functions are easier to use when I compare it to my Iphone. Also the phone is really fast to work with. And for me the camera is a big pro: it makes great quality photo's for normal use. You can't compare it to a SLR camera but it comes close to a compact cam. The cons of this phone (compared to my Iphone) are navigation through the device (sometimes you get lost) and using the Ovi store to download apps. But it probably needed some more practice to get totally used to this phone.

We have some hidden rooms in our store, for example this second story room. It reminds me of how this place used to be when we first visited it. It was dark, empty, cold and full of dust. It didn't even have a full floor, just a gap where you could see the first floor. Or rather a sandbox that suppossedly was made to make an indoor beach. Idea of the previous guy who rented it.

Right now the floor is fixed and we're wondering what to do with the room. As for now it has a photographic-purpose! It gives you a feeling of those big-american-metropolic-abandoned-rooms you sometimes see in films.

William is full of surprises these last weeks, he's the sweetest boyfriend (for almost 8 years now!). For example this Friday he took me to Amsterdam to eat sushi at Kyoto cafe. We drove off straight out of work so I needed to change clothes in the store. I decided to wear this blazer with my flared jeans. It is an eighties Mugler blazer which is already for sale in the shop for ages. Usually our vintage designer items are sold immediately but this blazer gets no attention at all. Probably because of the crappy photo's we took back then. I hope these photo's will change peoples perception because this beauty deserves a new owner! (€ 68,- at Froufrou's!)

Last Sunday William surprised me with a little trip to these old trains in Beekbergen. They'e old , or should I say historical, steam locomotives that were used between in the area. The railroadtrack remained and now they use it as an attraction during the summer. Truly a remarkable place hidden in a small village.

Afterwards we went to highest and biggest waterfall in the Netherlands? The highest and biggest what? Waterfall in the Netherlands?! Yes, I was amazed too! Sounds amazing but upon arrival you just see some water floating down a couple of stairs with a height difference of 15 meters. Still funny though.

We decided to end our sunny sunday with a drink on a terrace and landed on the terrace at the Veluwe. A small cabin-bar with terrace overlooking nature's scenery and miles away… Perfect sunday to me!

I recently rediscovered these jeans in my closet which I have never worn before. Too bad they are too big for me now .. I guess I lost a little bit of weight since I bought those. Especially after seeing these photo's I realized the fit of the pants is really bad. But well, they served me really good on this sunny sunday!

I hate it when you want to wear a dress, skirt or shorts and need to add tights because we're living in a climate where it's cold 80% of the year. The red tights looked kind of cool this time with my light pink skirt but sometimes I prefer wearing an ensemble without any fabric wrapped around my legs.

Today I went totally red, because now I could finally do the ALL red-look with my new hair. This afternoon, my sister in law, Miriam dropped by in the store who also recently dyed her hair and obviously she also chose to match her outfit. That created a little photo moment ;)

This is how our relaxation weekend in Gent looked like! We did a lot of vintage shopping and sightseeing. The city has an amazing vibe; nice people, a lot of antique/vintage stores/markets and fairytale buildings. We ended our weekend in Antwerp, eating sushi. We had the best boyfriend-girlfriend time :)
